Custom Printed Soap Wrapping Paper

Custom soap wrapping paper is a greaseproof sheet, printed with your pattern or logo, that folds round a bar of handmade soap and keeps its surface oils off the outside. It takes a crisp crease, so a bar wrapped on the kitchen table looks like it came from a shop.

From £0.25 a sheet. Written quote in one working day and a free design proof; the exact number depends on size, ink count and quantity.

PackingFlat cut sheets in cartons; rolls on request

Soap wrapping paper is a thin greaseproof sheet, usually white or natural kraft, cut square so it wraps a bar in one piece with the ends folded under. The greaseproof finish stops the oils and butters in a cold-process bar from marking the paper and blurring the print. Makers use it instead of a box when they want the bar to feel hand-finished.

Paper that wraps a bar which is still curing

Look at the third photo. A bar sits fully wrapped in a coloured sheet carrying a two-colour repeat, with a plain white panel printed on the top face where a scent label goes. The ends are folded under like a parcel and nothing holds them but the crease.

The second photo is a flat sheet before wrapping, white with a line illustration in two shades, which is how your artwork arrives from us: flat, in cartons, ready for the table.

The first photo shows two pale cold-process bars, one with a strip of kraft round its middle. It is there to show how natural kraft sits against a cream-coloured soap; a full wrap in the same kraft looks much the same, only closed.

Which sheet size wraps a 100 g bar?

Measure the bar's girth, that is twice its height plus twice its thickness, and add 20 mm of overlap. Then check the other way: the bar's length plus twice its thickness plus about 30 mm for the end folds. The larger figure is your sheet.

Typical sizeBar it suitsFold
150 × 150 mmGuest bar of about 50 g (55 × 40 × 20 mm)Straight wrap with folded ends
200 × 200 mmStandard bar of about 100 g (90 × 65 × 25 mm)Straight wrap, the usual pick
250 × 250 mmChunky bar of about 150 g (90 × 70 × 35 mm)Straight wrap or diagonal parcel fold
300 × 300 mmLarge or oblong bar of about 200 g, or a pleated gift wrapDiagonal fold or pleated top

A standard bar cut from a loaf mould at 25 mm thick lands squarely on the 200 × 200 mm sheet. If your mould gives a taller bar, go up a size rather than fighting a short overlap. The sheet size chart lists every size in millimetres.

What does cold-process soap do inside a paper wrap?

A cold-process bar keeps changing for weeks after it is cut. Water leaves it, the surface hardens, and a small amount of unsaponified oil, the superfat, migrates to the skin of the bar. That oil is what greaseproof paper is for.

Wrap a bar at two weeks and the oils spot an ordinary kraft sheet within days; the print goes translucent where the oil sits. Wrap the same bar at four to six weeks in a greaseproof sheet and the paper stays matt and the print stays sharp.

Scent travels too. Essential oils are volatile and a paper wrap lets them breathe, which is better for the bar than a sealed film that traps moisture and makes it sweat. Our guide to wrapping handmade soap covers cure times by recipe.

Three ways to fold a soap wrap

  1. Straight wrap: lay the bar in the centre of the sheet, bring the long edges over the top so they overlap by 20 mm, crease, then fold each end in like a parcel and tuck it under. Fastest, and the one the third photo shows.
  2. Diagonal parcel: set the bar at 45 degrees on the sheet and fold the corners in one at a time. Uses more paper, hides the overlap and suits an oblong bar.
  3. Pleated top: wrap the girth, then gather the two ends into pleats and fold them down. Slower, but it gives a bar the look of a wrapped gift and takes a band over the pleat.

A 35 to 45 gsm sheet holds all three folds with no tape. If you want a seal, a small round sticker over the overlap is enough; a printed soap band over the wrap does the same job and carries the scent name.

All-over pattern, blank panel or a single logo

  • All-over repeat with a blank panel: the pattern runs edge to edge and a plain window on the top face takes a handwritten or stamped scent name, as in the third photo
  • Single logo, centred: one mark on a plain sheet, placed so it lands on the top face when a standard bar is straight-wrapped
  • Two-sided print: pattern outside and a line of care text inside, seen when the customer unwraps
  • One colour on kraft: a dark green, a deep brown or black on natural kraft; two colours on kraft tend to look muddy

White stock shows a pale pink or a duck-egg blue truthfully. Kraft darkens every ink by a shade, so proof it before you fall in love with a pastel.

Weight and finish: why 35 to 45 gsm

A soap wrap wants to be light. At 35 gsm the sheet folds like tissue and the corners come out sharp; at 45 gsm it has a little more body and hides a rough-cut bar better. Above that the end folds get bulky and start to spring open.

The finish is matt on both faces. Greaseproof has none of the slip of a coated paper, so the overlap grips itself and the bar does not slide inside the wrap on a market table.

A textured face is possible on request and suits a rustic farm-shop range. It takes one colour well and two less well, because the texture breaks fine lines. Both soap papers sit side by side on the soap wrapping paper range page.

Can the scent and ingredients print on the wrap instead of a label?

Yes, if every bar in the run shares the same text. A wrap that prints the ingredient list, the weight in grams and your maker details on the base panel saves a label and a job on the bench.

If you make six scents, print the shared text and leave a panel blank for the scent. A rubber stamp or a small sticker fills the panel in seconds and you hold one wrap stock instead of six.

Keep text to 8 pt or larger on kraft and 7 pt on white; the fibres of a greaseproof sheet soften anything smaller. Try the layout in Design Your Custom Soap Wrapping Paper and send the result with the quote.

Why does a soap wrap stain, and how do you stop it?

Nearly every stained wrap we are shown was put on too early. A bar wrapped at ten days is still shedding water and oil; by week three the paper has dark patches. Cure for four to six weeks, longer for a high-olive recipe.

The second cause is a sweaty storage spot. Bars stacked in a sealed tub in a warm room draw moisture from the air, glycerine beads on the surface and the paper wicks it. Store wrapped bars in an open crate in a cool, dry room.

The third is wrapping a bar with a wet top. Soda ash or a damp decoration of petals carries water into the sheet. Brush the top, let it dry, then wrap.

How to order custom soap wrapping paper

  1. Measure a bar and pick a sheet from the table, or send the bar dimensions and we choose.
  2. Decide white or kraft and whether you want an all-over repeat, a single logo or a blank-panel layout.
  3. Send vector artwork, or a sketch and a photo of a wrapped bar; we redraw it for the proof.
  4. A written quote arrives within one working day with the sheet size, colours and quantity.
  5. Approve the quote, check the free proof, and ask for edits until the panel sits where you want it.
  6. Sheets print in 4 to 6 working days after approval and reach any UK mainland address by free tracked delivery in 2 to 3 working days.

The minimum is 1,000 sheets. From £0.25 a sheet is the starting point, with the exact figure on your quote. A misprint reported with photos inside 10 days is reprinted or refunded. The soap wrap quote form asks for the size, the quantity and your file.

Custom Soap Wrapping Paper questions

The questions UK buyers ask before a first order. Type a word to filter the cards, or open one for the full answer.

12 questions

Why wrap cold-process soap in greaseproof paper rather than plain kraft?

Because the superfat oils in a cold-process bar spot plain kraft within days.

How long should a bar cure before it goes into soap wrapping paper?

Four to six weeks for most recipes, and up to eight for a high-olive bar.

Will superfat oils bleed through soap wrapping paper and blur the print?

Not through a cured bar's greaseproof wrap. The sheet is beaten dense enough to hold oil at the surface.

What sheet size wraps a 90 × 65 × 25 mm soap bar?

200 × 200 mm. The girth is 180 mm plus 20 mm overlap, and the length needs 90 mm plus the end folds, so the 200 mm square sheet covers both with no waste.

Can a soap wrap print an all-over pattern with a blank panel for the scent?

Yes, and it is the most common layout we proof. We place the blank window so it lands on the top face of a straight-wrapped bar and the pattern runs under it.

Does soap wrapping paper trap moisture and make the bar sweat?

No. Greaseproof paper breathes, so a cured bar keeps losing water slowly through the wrap.

Will the essential oil scent soak into custom soap wrapping paper?

A little, and that is fine. The sheet picks up a faint scent from the bar, which customers notice when they lift it.

Can I close a soap wrap without tape or a sticker?

Yes. A 35 to 45 gsm greaseproof sheet holds a thumbnail crease, so the end folds tuck under and stay put.

Is one ink colour enough on kraft soap wrapping paper?

Usually, yes. A dark green or black on natural kraft reads cleanly; a second colour on kraft is often lost against the brown.

Can soap wrapping paper come on a roll rather than cut sheets?

Yes, on request. Cut sheets suit a maker wrapping a batch of 50 at the table; a roll suits a bench where someone tears to length all day.

Do you print both sides of a soap wrap?

Yes, as a second pass. Most makers put the pattern outside and a line of care advice or a thank-you inside, read as the bar is unwrapped.

How many bars does 1,000 sheets of soap wrapping paper cover?

One sheet wraps one bar, so 1,000 bars, with a few sheets spare for creasing mistakes.
