What counts as a greaseproof sheet?
A greaseproof sheet is a cut piece of paper whose fibre has been beaten so tight that fat cannot wick through it. There is no wax and no silicone. The grease hold is in the paper itself.
That is the difference from baking parchment, which carries a silicone release coat for the oven, and from wax paper, which goes clear and tacky under a heat lamp.
All four papers in this range share that same barrier. They differ in weight, surface and the cut they are sold in, and those differences decide which one suits a chip tray, a burger or a cheese board.
Which greaseproof sheet for which job?
Start with the food, not the paper. A sheet that folds round a hot burger needs weight; a sheet that sits under a loaf in a window needs a finish worth looking at.
| Paper | Typical weight | Made for | Starting size |
|---|
| Custom printed greaseproof sheets | About 35–45 gsm | Sandwich pockets, baguette wraps, scale sheets, cake bases | 250 × 375 mm |
|---|
| Burger wrap paper | About 40–50 gsm | Burgers, hot dogs, chip shop trays, loaded fries | 250 × 250 mm |
|---|
| Textured greaseproof paper | About 40–50 gsm | Cheese wraps, bread baskets, boards, gift boxes | 200 × 200 mm |
|---|
| Greaseproof basket liners | About 30–38 gsm | Chip baskets, burger baskets, lipped boards | 250 × 250 mm |
|---|
If you serve one thing all day, buy the sheet cut for it. If you serve a mixed menu, a 300 × 300 mm printed greaseproof sheet in kraft covers most of it at one price.
How do greaseproof sheets behave with hot food?
Dry heat is no problem. Typical grades sit under a heat lamp or in a hot cabinet without changing, and oven-safe grades go to about 200°C.
Steam is what catches people out. Wrap a burger tight straight off the grill and the bun sweats inside the paper. Leave the top open for a minute and a heavier burger wrap sheet does its job.
Grease shows differently on each paper. White shows a mark first; kraft hides it; textured hides it best of all because the mottling breaks up any shadow. Choose with that in mind if the sheet will be on show.
What size greaseproof sheet do I need?
Measure the item, then add enough to close the fold. The usual rules of thumb across the range are below.
- A wrap needs about three times the width of the food, so a sandwich half takes a 250 × 375 mm sheet.
- A burger needs the bun width plus 200 mm, which puts a single on 300 mm square and a double on 350 mm.
- A basket liner needs the base plus the two sides, so a 230 mm basket takes a 300 mm square.
- A board or box liner needs the base plus about 20 mm overhang all round for a tidy look.
Each product page carries its four typical sizes, and anything else is a custom cut. For a longer list by dish, see the sheet sizes by food guide.
Smooth white, kraft or textured?
Smooth white is the cleanest surface and the one to use when your logo has more than two colours or any pale tint. It is also the cheapest per sheet.
Kraft is brown, uncoated and forgiving. It suits one dark colour and a rustic look, and it costs about the same as white.
Textured paper is the odd one out. It costs more, prints less sharply and looks better on a board than either of the others. Keep it for the sheets a customer actually sees, and a mottled textured greaseproof sheet on a cheese counter earns its price.
How do greaseproof sheets print?
Every sheet in the range prints the same way: one to four food-safe soy or water-based colours, matched to Pantone solid-coated swatches, laid down flat before the sheets are cut.
Repeats suit wraps and liners because the fold hides part of the sheet. Single logos suit flat sheets, boards and boxes. Artwork should be vector, with text outlined and nothing finer than 0.5 mm.
You get a proof before any paper is printed, and you can change it as often as you need. Nothing runs until you say so.
Mistakes to avoid across the range
Buying one sheet for every job is the big one. A liner is too thin to wrap a burger and a burger wrap is a waste under a bread roll. Two sizes of two papers usually cover a whole menu.
Printing pale ink on kraft is the second. It fades into the brown. Use white stock for anything lighter than a mid tone.
The third is confusing greaseproof with baking parchment. Greaseproof sticks in a hot tin. For an oven job, pick a lined tray product rather than a sheet from this range; a light printed basket liner is for serving, not baking.
How do I order greaseproof sheets?
- Pick the paper from the table above and the size closest to your food.
- Send the size in mm, kraft, white or textured, the weight if you know it and your logo file.
- A written quote arrives within one working day. From £0.25 a sheet is where pricing starts, and the quote gives the exact figure.
- Approve the quote, check the free proof, then production takes 4–6 working days.
- Delivery is tracked and free to UK mainland addresses in 2–3 working days. Minimum 1,000 sheets per design.
