Custom Wax and Paraffin Paper for UK Counters

Three waxed papers for food that is handled cold or sweats in a chiller: dry wax sheets, paraffin rolls and printed paraffin sheets. Each is printed under the wax, so the logo never touches the food.

Written quote in one working day, free design proof. Minimum order 1,000 sheets or 1 roll.

What is the difference between dry wax and paraffin paper?

Dry wax paper has wax driven into the sheet under heat, then wiped back. The face still feels like paper, takes a crease, and keeps light moisture out for a few hours.

Paraffin paper, sometimes called wet wax, carries a continuous film on one or both faces. Hold it up to a window and it looks glassy. Water beads on it, fat cannot cross it, and it stays supple in a cold case.

Both start from a white or kraft base of roughly 35 to 55 gsm. The coating decides the job, not the base.

The heat question, and when greaseproof beats either of them, is settled in the greaseproof versus wax paper guide.

Which waxed paper for which counter job?

Three products cover most counter work. Find the food in the table and read across.

If the product sweats, sits chilled for days, or has to peel off clean, go paraffin. If it is handled and eaten within the hour, dry wax paper for sandwiches costs less and prints a touch crisper.

How do waxed papers behave with cheese, butter and sweets?

Cheese is the test case. A wedge in paraffin keeps its moisture in and the chiller smell out. The same wedge in dry wax dries at the cut face within a day.

Butter and fudge want paraffin for release. Peel the wrap away and the surface stays smooth, with no fibres left behind.

Dry wax shines on a sandwich. Fold it tight, the crease holds, and the pickle never reaches the bread. Keep dry wax below about 80°C and paraffin below about 60°C; above that the wax moves and the sheet turns clear.

When the wrap is also the label, printed paraffin sheets for cheese give room for a name, a weight line and a flavour.

Sheets or rolls: how do you decide?

The same waxed paper comes cut or wound. Decide by how your counter works, not by the price of one sheet.

  • Cut sheets suit a sandwich station: grab, wrap, fold, no blade on the bench.
  • Rolls suit a cheese counter or a butcher's block where every item is a different size.
  • 300 mm and 375 mm rolls tear clean across a dispenser bar; 450 mm and 600 mm rolls want a bench cutter.
  • Printed rolls carry the logo as a repeat, so the brand shows wherever the tear lands.
  • Sheets are quoted by size and count; rolls are priced by the roll on the quote.

One roll or 1,000 sheets is the minimum either way. Widths, lengths and core sizes are on the paraffin paper rolls page.

Printing under the wax

Ink goes on first. The sheet is printed, dried, then waxed, so the coating seals the print and nothing transfers to a block of butter.

Dry wax takes one or two colours well. Paraffin holds up to four, but every colour reads a touch lighter through the film, so we pull Pantone solid-coated matches a shade deeper.

A one-colour repeat on white is the classic deli look and the cheapest plate. One colour on kraft is the butcher's look. Two colours on kraft tends to go muddy.

Artwork rules for plates, type sizes and reversed text are in the guide to printing on greaseproof and waxed stock.

How ordering works across the range

  1. Name the paper, the size or roll width, the base (white or kraft) and the quantity.
  2. Send a vector logo and say one colour or more.
  3. A written quote comes within one working day, with a free design proof that shows the ink as it looks under wax.
  4. Edit the proof until it is right, then approve it; nothing prints before that.
  5. Production runs 4 to 6 working days, followed by free tracked delivery in 2 to 3 working days to UK mainland addresses.
  6. Pay by invoice after approval. Misprints or transit damage reported within 10 days with photos are reprinted or refunded.

One quote request for waxed papers can cover sheets and rolls together.

Three mistakes buyers make with waxed papers

Buying dry wax for a cheese counter. It is cheaper, and the wedges dry out by Tuesday.

Buying paraffin for hot sandwiches. The film softens under a toastie and the wrap goes clear and tacky.

Ordering four colours on kraft. The base swallows pale inks and the wax mutes the rest; one dark colour looks better and costs less.

For small bakery bags rather than wraps, the glassine paper range for bakeries is the lighter, crisper stock.

10 questions

Which custom wax and paraffin paper suits a cheese counter?

Paraffin, as rolls for the counter or printed sheets for the retail wrap.

Is dry wax or paraffin paper cheaper per sheet?

Dry wax usually. It carries less wax and prints on one plate, so it is the cheaper sheet for sandwiches and counter pick-up sheets.

Can the papers in the wax and paraffin range go under a heat lamp?

No. Both coatings soften well below cooking heat, dry wax at roughly 80°C and paraffin nearer 60°C.

Does the printed logo on waxed papers touch the food?

No. Every paper in this range is printed before it is waxed, so the ink sits sealed under the coating.

Can I order wax sheets and paraffin rolls on one quote?

Yes. List both on the quote form and they come back as separate lines on one written quote.

Are wax and paraffin papers sold on a white base only?

No. White and kraft are both available, and paraffin rolls also come in an orange tint.

Which waxed paper peels off butter without leaving fibres?

Paraffin. The film sits on the surface, so butter and fudge release clean.

What is the minimum order across the wax and paraffin range?

1,000 sheets of one size, or one roll. Mixed sizes are quoted as separate lines.

How many colours can waxed papers in this range be printed in?

One to four. Dry wax looks best in one or two; paraffin shows up to four, printed a shade deeper to allow for the film.

Does waxed paper hold a crease like greaseproof?

Dry wax holds a soft crease; paraffin springs back. For a parcel that relies on sharp folds, use greaseproof sheets for wraps.
